Age of Wonders II: The Wizard's Throne là phiên bản tiếp theo của game chiến thuật nổi tiếng Age of Wonders. Không giống như phần đầu, trong phần 2 này, game thủ sẽ vào vai một phù thuỷ bất tử có khả năng dùng phép thuật. Tuy không thể nâng cấp, nhưng trong vài tình huống nhân vật này có thể tránh bị giết chết.\

Trong The Wizard's Throne, các phép thuật dùng một hệ thống phân vùng: các pháp sư chỉ có thể dùng pháp thuật trong phạm vi "miền" của mình. Các miền phép thuật có thể chồng lên nhau. Tuy nhiên, phạm vi miền của một pháp sư có thể được tăng lên đáng kể nếu được vào trong Wizard’s Tower. Chỉ có wizard mới có thể dùng những phép đánh toàn bản đồ.\

Bản đồ chiến thuật trong Age of Wonders II nhỏ hơn so với phiên bản đầu tiên, và điều này làm nhịp độ các trận chiến diễn ra nhanh hơn. Khi lên cấp, các Hero không được chọn các kỹ năng mới trong một danh sách các kỹ năng cho sẵn như ở phần 1 nữa mà chỉ được chọn 1 trong 3 kỹ năng dựa vào lớp nhân vật của hero đó.

Các fan của Age of Wonders hẳn cũng sẽ hài lòng với đồ hoạ và âm nhạc đã được cải tiến rất nhiều, ngoài ra còn bổ sung thêm các nhiệm vụ phụ từ các vị thần, các chủng tộc và công trình mới cũng sẽ mang lại những nét mới mẻ đáng kể cho phiên bản tiếp theo này.
