Crusader Kings đặt bối cảnh vào thời kì Châu Âu trung cổ đang ở trong tình trạng hỗn loạn. Các vùng đất bị chia 5 xẻ 7 và Hoàng đế thì đang đối đầu với Đức Giáo Hoàng. Tại thời điểm này Đức Giáo Hoàng đã tuyên bố rằng những người đi giải phóng vùng Đất Thánh sẽ được giải thoát khỏi mọi tội lỗi. 

Thu thập sự uy tín và lòng thành kính để rồi thế giới sẽ thì thầm tên của bạn trong sự kinh sợ. Liệu bạn có lựa chọn hợp tác với các phe phái khác, và Đức Giáo Hoàng, nằm dưới quyền lãnh đạo của bạn để giải phóng vùng Đất Thánh? Liệu bạn có được những điều cần thiết để trở thành một vị Vua của miền Đất Thánh?
